Slow Motion: Back to Reality

Well, now that we’ve done all the research spirals, applied for passports, booked the scouting trip, and promised ourselves not to make any final decisions until after the trip… there’s not much left to do but dream. And go back to life as usual. But it feels so boring and slow.

I need to pick up the pen again and continue building my next program. That’s going to take a lot of research, a lot of interviews, and a lot of late nights.

And I need to take Harry to take his driver’s test. EEK. And check his passport status again. “Information Received: Back In Progress” SCORE!!!

Time to get ready for soccer season. Oh crap. Soccer season. How did that sneak up on me??? The season starts in 2 weeks. I better check my email in case I missed the team roster. You see, I coach Skipper’s soccer team. Well, I used to be Assistant Coach, but this year, I took over as Head Coach. And I’m wondering what I got myself into. No. Didn’t miss the email with the team roster. Better email the league to check in – ok it should be here any day.

10 days later…

Finally have the roster – 4 days before the first practice. Great!!! Ok, email all the parents, round up all the gear, make sure Skipper’s cleats still fit. And refresh the passport status page. “Information Received: Back In Progress” ARGH.

You see what I mean? Boring stuff. Everyday stuff. When Vietnam stuff is what’s really on my mind. So I signed up to take Vietnamese lessons over video calls with a Vietnamese local. She’s great – we meet twice a week. And I’m probably hopelessly mispronouncing everything, but she’s been very patient. I just want to know some basic stuff before we get feet on the ground.
