Morning Glory is My New Favorite Food

I managed to sleep in today!! Didn’t get up until 5am!

Ken and I went back to the Corgi Cafe, as has become our standard morning routine. I’m intent on trying ALL of their drinks before we go back home. Today, I had a Strawberry Matcha Latte – IT WAS AMAZING!

Next, we snagged Harry to come out for breakfast – we wanted to try a local favorite. Bo ne is a traditional Vietnamese breakfast consisting of yolky eggs, steak, pate, sweet corn, cucumber and tomatoes. All of that is served on a hot, sizzling cast iron dish, and accompanied by Banh Mi bread to dip and soak it all up. It was packed with a plethora of flavors, and nothing went to waste because that bread was perfect for capturing all the juicy goodness. This might be one of the culinary highlights of the trip!

Back to the Airbnb for what has become our mid-day tradition of a shower and nap before going back to the Hoi An Night Market to pick up my dresses.

When our Grab dropped us off at the Night Market, we realized there was a whole different side that we never even saw the night before! This is the part I had been looking for and thought we missed. There were lanterns everywhere, people riding in gondolas, everything was absolutely beautiful. There were all different types of vendors everywhere – anything you can think of can be found here. Custom clothing, luggage, souvenirs, food of all sorts, toys, you name it. There was so much to see!

The dresses I ordered fit like a glove! Which to be fair, they should, since they were custom-made to order lol. I’m just not used to things fitting me properly – I usually buy off-the-rack. And that is rough for someone who is short and overweight. Anything that fits my waist is miles too long, and anything that fits in length won’t zip. These were perfect, and beautiful, and better than I could have hoped for. And it didn’t hurt that I got TWO silk dresses, custom-made, for less than the cost of one off-the-rack cotton dress back home. These worked out to less than $75 USD. Total. But I think next time, I’ll stick with linen for a more casual look. These feel so fancy!

While we were at the dress shop (Tailor Tuyen, 54/8 D Phan Chau Trinh, Old Town Hoi An), Harry asked the seamstress to tailor his linen shirt to fit him better. Took her 15 minutes, cost us $4 USD, and Harry was extra confident in his new threads now.

After all that excitement, we decided it was time for dinner. We found an adorable restaurant (with AC!) and ordered some Hoi An specialty dishes. Morning Glory (water spinach sauteed with garlic) is now my favorite veggie, hands down. Tried Cau Lau (noodles, veggies, pork, and crispy wonton strips), and found that I actually liked it. It was way better than the poor excuse of my Cau Lau attempt back home a couple months ago haha. Also… Ken seems to be set on becoming 95% Banh Mi before we get home, so he had to order another one. Okay. THIS might be the culinary highlight of the whole trip haha.

I found a jeweler that can repair my broken jade bracelet after the move. I showed him a picture of the bracelet, used Google Translate to communicate what I was looking for, and he smiled and showed me a whole case of similar items waiting to be picked up.

We enjoyed the rest of the night at a leisurely pace before returning to the room. But of course, we had to stop in at the juice stand next door for another pomelo juice for Ken and pineapple juice for me. It was very late, and still over 80 degrees F. I love this place, but the heat and humidity are killer.
