Got our morning pets in with the Corgis, and enjoyed another Strawberry Matcha Latte… AND a Caramel Latte.
Went out for a breakfast of dumplings, and tried all the different varieties. Nhat Dai Sui Cao does it right! (N23 An Thuong 34, Ngu Hanh Son, Da Nang) Harry wanted to try the tofu skin salad, which was also quite tasty, even though I’m really not into tofu.
Ken wasn’t feeling so hot, so we spent quite a bit more time in the room. We think he had mild heat exhaustion, so I ran down to one of the local stores to grab him some Pocari Sweat (kind of like Gatorade, but a bit milder in flavor) to help him re-hydrate. And a Banh Mi, because of course lol.
Since Ken started feeling better in the afternoon, we chose to appease Harry’s craving for sushi. There was an all you can eat Japanese BBQ and sushi restaurant across the street, so we decided to check it out. Okay. This place? All you can eat Japanese BBQ, sushi AND hot pot?? YEAH. Gyusachi Yakiniku (69 Do Ba, Ngu Hanh Son, Da Nang) – I’m telling you, you gotta try it. It was probably the most expensive meal we had on the whole trip, but still far less than it would have been in the US. We tried all the cuts of Wagyu, all the pork belly, and more. Plus, we got sushi and miso soup, fruit teas, and fresh watermelon slices for dessert. Total for 3 adults was about $60 USD after beverages, extras, and tip. Worth every single penny.
After dinner, Ken went back to the room to rest while Harry and I went for a walk to explore. Harry had been trying to be discreet about checking out the tattoo shop, but finally told me he just wanted to step inside to see what their art looked like. I let him know that after a tattoo, he can’t swim at all or shower in local unfiltered water – it wasn’t safe with what is basically a very large open wound. But he REALLY wanted to get his first tattoo, so he scheduled an appointment the day before departure. He told them what he was looking for and they gave him a rough cost estimate and promised to send him some art before the appointment.
Not gonna lie, that was kind of a proud mom-moment. I have several tattoos myself but have been encouraging him to thoroughly think through any tattoo before actually getting one. He’s been considering what his first tattoo would be for a couple of years now, so I know he made a solid decision that he won’t regret later. And a tattoo as a memory of his trip to Vietnam? Kind of a solid souvenir lol
