Queen – Gray Tabby, Royalty at Heart

I was at a friend’s house to celebrate my birthday in 2013. He had found Queen on the road with a pretty deep wound in her side and nursed her back to health, but discovered he was allergic to her in the meantime. When she came out of hiding, we hit it off instantly. She sat on my shoulder and nuzzled into my hair. It was instant love. My friend wished me a happy birthday and told me to take her home with me.

About a week later, we noticed that her wound seemed to be re-opening, so we took her to the vet. We really couldn’t afford to pay for the surgery they needed – we weren’t planning on getting a pet, she just happened into our lives. The vet was awesome – the surgery was supposed to be around $750, but they asked what we could afford, and agreed to do it for just the $200 we were able to cover. This also meant pushing out the spay we had scheduled until she was fully healed. Well, she recovered well, and a few days before we were able to get her in for her spay appointment, she broke out of the house. We found the kitchen window partly open, the screen pushed out, and her breakaway collar laying on the chair under the window. Harry was distraught – he missed her so much. We walked all over the neighborhood calling for her for about a week, with no luck. We thought for sure she was long gone and we’d never see her again.

But then, just when we’d given up hope of ever finding her, she BROKE BACK IN! Right back through the same window she left from. And hopped up on Ken’s lap like she was announcing her return.

A couple months later, she was birthing kittens. You can read all about her daughter, Wonder Kitty, in the next post.

Queen is regal, and ladylike, and prissy in all the best ways. We love her, though we’re pretty sure she just views us as the peasants she allows to live in her house.
