Scouting Trip, Take Two

Some days it seems like we aren’t making any progress on moving overseas. And some days it feels like we ran a marathon. I guess that’s just the way it is with an ADHD brain??

I swear it seemed like we weren’t able to make any progress at all for so long. Then, over the weekend, we booked the scouting trip to Thailand. Airfare, Airbnbs in 3 cities, school tour. We decided to take a route through South Korea this time – I figure if we have to layover, we might as well check out a new airport lol.

And we’ll be checking out Sriracha and Rayong for potential places to live. We want to live like locals – not in an expat bubble. Phuket and Pattaya are both very expat-heavy. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem with expats. But if I wanted to live in a tiny version of the US, I wouldn’t be leaving, right? I want to embrace the local culture and lifestyle. I’m not a huge fan of big cities, so that rules out Bangkok. And as great as Chiang Mai seems, it’s way too far from the beach. And come on – it would be AWESOME to live in a place we’ve only ever known for its hot sauce!!

We’re scheduled for a tour of the potential school for Skipper, and it seems like a school she’ll love just as much as HAIS (the one we found in Da Nang, Vietnam). They have amazing art programs, and the soccer field is to DIE for. I guess I need to start calling it “football”???

Then, today, I went out to breakfast with a good friend, Linze. She’s the best – she’s always been there for us, even when we’re moving across the world. Her son (Harry’s best friend) is interested in buying my truck. And the best part is he doesn’t need it right away, so I can keep it until we move. That means we don’t have to worry about what to do for transportation in the last few weeks before we leave. Definitely a huge weight off my back.

Maybe Thailand will work out, after all??
